Papaw’s Garden Supply: Helping The Next Generation To Grow With Nature.

Silver Queen Sweet Corn is a hybrid, white sweet corn breed that matures earlier and is sweeter (An updated version of the classic white sweet corn.). Because it is a sugary-enhanced (se) variety, it is sweeter than traditional sweet corn varieties as it has more sugar and less starch. It also will store longer once harvested, usually 5-9 days in cold storage. Silver Queens mature 10-15 days later than Silver Kings and are one of our earliest White corn varieties. Plants produce 7′ tall stalks with large 8-9″ ears. This is great for grilling, boiling, or roasting but also performs well when frozen as cream corn. The germination process takes around five to 14 days, and full maturity lasts 85-88 days. For pollination purposes, corn should be planted in a square plot with rows spaced 30-36′′ apart.  Planting a few long rows will result in poor germination and the absence of kernels on the cob.

How to Grow Your Silver Queen Hybrid Sweet Corn:

  • Suggested Planting Depth: ½-1 inches in rows
  • Suggested Planting Seasons:   Spring, Early Summer
  • Suggested Final Plant Spacing:  10-12 inches apart
  • Suggested Planting Configuration: Single row block
  • Maintain a weed-free seed bed in full sun and with adequate moisture
  • Seeds are treated so handle seed with proper PPE
