Papaw’s Garden Supply: Helping The Next Generation To Grow With Nature.

Red Acre Cabbage is an open-pollinated heirloom vegetable with excellent long-term storage capabilities. This variety produces beautiful, compact, reddish-purple heads that mandate less space than classic green varieties. Red Acre Heirloom Cabbage is great for smaller gardens or intensive planting applications. Red Acre Cabbage grows best in areas where weeds are at a minimum. This cabbage variety is moderately frost-tolerant and produces better fruits when planted in cooler weather. It will tend to bolt in warmer temperatures.

How to Grow Your Red Acre Heirloom Cabbage:

  • Suggested Planting Depth: ¼ inch in cells under lights
  • May be started early under lights indoors and gently transplanted outside in approximately 4 weeks
  • Successful crops can be grown in Southern Areas with mild winters (not below 36°F). Transplants can be set out from September to February
  • Suggested Planting Seasons: Spring, Late Summer
  • Suggested Final Plant Spacing: Depending on the desired head size, 18 to 24-40 inches apart in rows. The closer you plant, the smaller the heads
  • Suggested Planting Configuration: Single row or solid wide row block
  • Maintain a weed-free seed bed in full sun and with adequate moisture
