Papaw’s Garden Supply: Helping The Next Generation To Grow With Nature.

Murdoc's Pointed Head Cabbage variety produces large, cone-shaped heads that average 7-8 lbs. They are packed with very tender and flavorful leaves (it has a sweeter flavor than round cabbage varieties). The heads have heart-shaped centers, and the thinner leaves give it a silky texture perfect for fresh or lightly sautéed cabbage dishes. Murdoc pointed-head cabbage is especially suited for weisskraut, a Bavarian specialty that is milder and more tender than typical sauerkraut. It is also excellent for coleslawscole slaws, stir fries, and sautés.

How to Grow Your Murdoc Pointed Head Cabbage:

  • Suggested Planting Depth: ¼ inch in cells under lights
  • May be started early under lights indoors and gently transplanted outside in approximately 4 weeks
  • Successful crops can be grown in Southern Areas with mild winters (not below 36°F). Transplants can be set out from September to February
  • Suggested Planting Seasons: Spring, Late Summer
  • Suggested Final Plant Spacing: Depending on the desired head size, 12 to 24-40 inches apart in rows. The closer you plant, the smaller the heads
  • Suggested Planting Configuration: Single row or solid wide row block
  • Maintain a weed-free seed bed in full sun and with adequate moisture
